Abstract

For successful understanding of the signal transmissionon metallic homogeneous symmetric lines, it is necessary exactly torecognize essential negative influences in the real environment oflocal subscriber loops. This contribution discusses frequencycharacteristics of linear negative influences on transmitted signal,near-end and far-end crosstalks and the impulse noise in the xDSLenvironment. For the expansion of communication systems on lowvoltagepower distribution cables, it is necessary to have a detailedknowledge of the PLC transmission environment and, therefore, this contribution discusses also negative influences in the realenvironment of customer cable installations. A main attention isfocused on the description of the proposed VDSL and PLCsimulation models and on the explanation of simulation methodsfor substantial negative influences. Presented informationrepresents a reach enough knowledgebase for the extendedtechniques of the VDSL and PLC signal transmission that can beextremely helpful for various tests and performance comparisons.
